Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 TPT.
Is giving over our entire burden to God and walking away filled with joy even possible? Yes! Living in the sure knowledge that our Father in heaven has every care covered means not ever having to think about it again. Once we have removed ourselves from interfering in God’s process, He can fulfil the mandate from us to solve the problem.
Psalm 55:22 TPT describes it beautifully – So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you. David actually gives us the outcome of leaving our cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord – measureless grace strengthens us while God works. What an incredible promise! When we cast our cares on Him completely, we are strengthened.
Worry and anxiety means our problem is bigger than our perception of who God is. Anxiety also infers that if we cannot trust God to deal with our situation, it is assumed we are capable of finding our own solution. Our strength will fail us but God will never let us down.
How do we cast our cares upon him and receive freedom from the anxiety we face on a daily basis? We need to focus on who He is instead of the burden we are carrying. Spending time in the Word, learning what God says about how much he cares for us is important. If you are struggling to release the load, spend time in Psalms. David turned toward God in every situation. He experienced many victories but he also experienced incredible adversity. In tough times, David’s attitude to God, his prayer life and his worship inspire us to readjust our focus.
Once our focus has shifted from our cares to Who He is, it’s simply a matter of saying: “God, You are better able to handle anything I face than I ever could.” Awareness of our thought life also halts the process of being concerned about cares before the burden is able to overwhelm us. 2 Corinthians 10:5 admonishes us to demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One. TPT
Every time a care threatens to overtake us and cause us to lose focus we determinedly look toward the Author and Finisher of our faith [Hebrews 12:2] knowing that our surrender demonstrates our trust and our faith in God as our heavenly Father.
